San Vigilio has two ski and snowboard schools which are affiliated to the Italian Ski School and operate according to the provincial regulations on the matter. Both schools offer therefore highly professional service, thanks to the full-scale training of the almost 100 ski instructors. These were all born and grew up in an ambience, where skiing and winter sport is part of everybody’s life from youth on. Both schools have an office in the village and propose individual and group courses for skiers all ages and levels as well as courses in cross-country skiing and telemark. The ski schools of San Vigilio are specialized in teaching children, but are also prepared to attend skiers at competition level with former athletes of the national ski and snowboard teams. If you choose San Vigilio to spend your winter holidays you should also grasp the chance to try cross-country skiing. The 12km-long Marebbe Valley, which leads from San Vigilio into the Nature Park Fanes-Sennes-Braies, is the most beautiful place to practice this most enchanting sport. Circular interconnected track sections in all lenghts, the longest stretching over 24km, provide the ideal practice terrain for skiers of all levels of expertise. The tracks begin officially at “Pespesc” in San Vigilio and may be accessed for free. Half way along the trail and at its end there are refuges that offer food and shelter. The courses in cross-country skiing organized by the schools of San Vigilio take place in the drill ground at the beginning of the trails.

There is nothing more enchanting than hiking through the snow-cowered winter landscape. In San Vigilio, the most beautiful paths in the immediate vicinity of the village are groomed to allow walkers to savour this unique experience without difficulty. Especially on sunny days, which are very numerous in our area, it is a real pleasure to set out on a discovery trip around San Vigilio to view the farms, high hillsides, forest streets and the theme path dedicated to the legend of Fanes. All paths are well marked and sign-posted.

At the Kronplatz, skiing is at home, but also with the toboggan, you can amuse very well. Especially suited are the two tracks from the rifugio Pederü to the rifugio Fanes and Lavarella or to the rifugio Fodara Vedla and Sennes. During the opening times of these rifugies, you can also go up by snow cat. This is certainly an unforgettable experience. Sled or spend an exciting and romantic night on snow cat and sledge! The mountain refuges Fanes and Senes offer snow-cat service and serve delicious dishes. And the torch-lit downhill ride on the sledge is for sure nothing but fun!

The most active and curious adventurers might take advantage of “Ciao Dolomites”, a group of alpine guides that take guests on snow-shoeing and ski-trekking tours or accompany you on the discovery trip in the most interesting ski areas of the Dolomites.

Horse Trekking Mareo with its good-natured Icenlandic horses is the ideal starting point for a beautiful hack through the winter landscape. Full-moon hacks and trekking to the Fanes refuge are available upon request - a unique adventure! The Icelandic horse farm is located near the Ciamaor sports grounds, only 2 km from San Vigilio in the direction of Pederü.
