In 1256 the bishop of Bressanone, Earl Bruno von Bullenstätten layed the foundation of the town Brunico by constructing the castle of Brunico. Today Brunico has 13.000 inhabitants and it is said to be the cultural and economical centre of the Val Pusteria.
